The red maple in our backyard has been ailing for a few years and got to the point that it needed to come down. Jer has been trimming off the lower limbs for a while now and Saturday was the day we took down the rest. Jer was testing the strength of his knot on the rope that was to make sure the tree fell in the right direction (and not into our house :)
It is hard to see through the trees, but our friend Bill was holding the rope...this is like where's waldo?
and then pounded in a wedge to push the tree over in the right direction after cutting most of the way through.
This is an action shot - he was going to go help Bill pull the rope since nothing was happening, but as he was headed over there we heard a CRACK and he quickly changed direction and only nearly was hit by the upper branches
After attacking the stump with a stump grinder, he leveled the soil and planted grass. Another busy Saturday around here.
