We went camping at Hoffmaster with people from our church. We set up Wednesday night along with Lee, Judy, Megan, Connie, and Steve. A few of the families had cancelled due to recent hospitalizations and we were trying to decide how many families would still be coming the next day. We decided to sit around a citronella candle that night because it was really hot! We had a lot of trees and shade on our lot, which we were thankful for because the forecast was for some of the hottest weather in 5 years!
The girls love to share chairs for some reason. It is cute, so I won't stop them. :)
On Thursday it was cloudy and the radar looked like we might get some rain, so we went to the beach with Megan in the morning hoping it would blow over, but we were almost the only ones on the beach and it started to rain after about an hour, so we headed back to the camper for lunch. The wind came up and blew food off the kids' plates, so we moved inside for lunch as the rain started to pour.
After lunch, I tried to get Stella and Henry to take a nap, and after a bit, they both fell asleep (along with Jer) and Leila and I played trash while it rained.
Stella insisted she wasn't tired and peeked at us through the curtain I closed until she fell asleep.
We got quite a bit of rain, but when it was done, everything dried up nicely.
We managed to get our fire going for supper even with wet wood, and had hobo pies and s'mores.
We brought along their scooters because their bikes took too much room in the truck, and the kids rode them up and down our road a little bit, but the funniest thing to me was that they would get their helmets on, scoot across the one lane road, and then park them at Lee & Judy's lot and walk around with their helmets on for half an hour, then scoot back across the road, park, and take their helmets off.
At breakfast I poured Stella's OJ and cereal and then turned back and she had poured the orange juice on her cereal instead of milk. She claimed to like it and ate most of it until the cereal got soggy.
We decided to leave a day early because the forecast called for rain with thunderstorms all the last morning. Henry took a nap and the girls talked with and showed off for a group of adults hanging out at another site, so we took the opportunity to pack up the camper and finished taking everything down when Henry woke up. We went to the beach for the afternoon, and then changed clothes and headed home.
We had a great time building relationships with people from church - our kids played with the other kids, but spent most of their time bonding with the adults. Telling them their stories, showing them the pictures they had colored, and giving out nicknames - like Mr. Meijer to Lee when he went to Meijer. It doesn't sound very funny, but Stella was just so proud of herself for coming up with it and thought it was hilarious, so all three kids laughed every time one of them said it, which made it funny to the rest of us.
We dropped off the camper at my parents' house, then had supper at Arby's, then picked up Captain Sundae and ate it at a pond before heading home and giving the kids baths, unpacking, showering, and falling into our own comfy bed. I felt a little bit bad leaving early, but when I woke to pouring rain and thunder, I stopped feeling bad, rolled over, and went back to sleep :)
